BALI MOTHER & BABY HOUSE
Testimonials.
Nicole and Family
My name is Nicole. I am a mother of two boys and have worked for Brisbane City Council for over 12 years. The boys keep me super busy and I'm often spending weekends running after them and attending all their extra-curricular activities!
I got involved in the House because I lived in Jakarta as a child and am acutely aware of how those less fortunate than I struggle every day to make ends meet, including not having access to basic services. I wanted to give back to the Indonesian community and also took the opportunity to allow my young boys to experience first-hand how we could help.
While in Bali in November 2019 I visited the house, brought clothing and also money my son had raised through his Scouts group. My two boys played with the children living in the House and learnt a few new games. I loved seeing them interact and how children can just play without barriers or judgement.
The boys often talk about their experience and when I remind them that some children aren't as fortunate as them - they think back to the Mother and Baby House and realise how fortunate they are. They have also started a 'Giving' jar at home - where they spilt their pocket money between 'Spend' 'Save' and 'Give'. Although the visit to the House was short, they learnt true happiness is in giving not receiving.
Anthony and Family
My family holds an annual fundraising gala in Melbourne for the Bali Mother and Baby House. We have Indonesian dancing, delicious food, flowing wine and an update on all the children in the House – complete with photos and videos.
Our friends, families and colleagues are extremely generous. We are so thankful for their kindness. These donations have funded English classes for the mums, dentist appointments for the children, rent and electricity payments and courses in body safety and health education. We love helping the House and it is great to see immediate benefits from our fundraising.
SITI
I am a mother and work as a personal shopper and own an Instagram shop. I am Indonesian.
I got involved with Bali Mother and Baby House because I used to be a struggling single mum. I was physically abused as a child and I feel like I need to do something to help people who also had difficult experiences.
I donate a percentage of my profits to the House. My clients are happy to give and I feel like I am making a difference.
I can also show my young daughter how to care for others. She is shy around the children when we visit the House but last time we took cake and puddings and had so much fun.
